Additional Programs

At Cheltenham Primary School we believe in providing our students with as many opportunities to explore their hobbies and interests.

As well as our Specialist Programs, we offer additional programs such as Bring Your Own Device (Years 4-6), Outdoor Education (camps, Years 3-6) and Kitchen Classroom.

We want every child to feel a sense of belonging and to be provided with multiple experiences in a range of social situations. We cater for students’ wellbeing through a variety of programs from buddies in Foundation to Lego Club and other Lunchtime Clubs, to support students that feel anxious about connecting socially with others.

BYOD

As a 21st Century Learning Community, Cheltenham Primary School proudly supports the Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) iPad program.

Commencing in Year 4, the BYOD program allows for students to have 1:1 access to a variety of high level digital devices. This supports them to develop the skills necessary to meet the demands of a 21st Century workplace.

Literacy and Numeracy are our core focus.
We use digital technologies to develop Literacy and Numeracy necessary skills and research skills. Having access to their own individual device, means students have a wealth of content at their fingertips to interpret and make meaning from.

The BYOD program aligns perfectly with our school’s focus on student voice and agency. Access to a range of applications and information, allows students to choose their topic focus and how they wish to present their findings.

It is important that we recognise that the iPad does not replace traditional pen and paper activities. We still believe there is a place for traditional texts and writing skills today and in the future. The iPad is used during certain times in the day and when needed to support student learning. Students converse and interact with each other face-to-face during class times to deepen their individual and collective understandings.

Classes are delivered by a specialist instructor, Jennifer Leason, who has a wealth of experience in cooking alongside children.
